Role
Associate Project Director & Lead User Researcher
Challenge
How might design a digital health intervention that helps people living with HIV stay in care, that can be easily implemented by different clinics around the U.S.?
Approach
Brought together a cross-functional team of experts in in HIV treatment and care, behavior change, communication, videography, UI/UX, and software engineering to develop an interactive evidence-based video doctor experience for people living with HIV, for use by HIV primary care clinics
Solicited ongoing qualitative and quantitative feedback from a panel of end-users on key components of content and product design through surveys, focus groups, and interactive workshops
Prototyped and tested different pathways through the tool to improve the user experience and maximize engagement
Pilot tested the intervention in 4 HIV clinics to assess implementation fidelity and feasibility
Refined implementation protocol and evaluated intervention effectiveness in 4 additional clinics
Impact
The final intervention, Positive Health Check, has a flexible implementation protocol that can fit into a many different workflows while still remaining true to the core components that elicit behavior change for patients.
Positive Health Check is now part of CDC’s Compendium of Evidence-Based Interventions and Best Practices for HIV Prevention and available for free to clinics across the US in the Google and Apple App Store
